Poster and Pins are Done!

Whew! It was a busy yet productive day today. I made my poster and it turned out awesomesauce! You'll see it in the cafeteria tomorrow, with all of the other candidates' posters. I also got my pins done, and I'm going to be passing those out tomorrow.

I really liked how my poster came out. It's nice and bright, and I didn't use the computer at all. It is all hand written. All the colors worked right and there was no smearing (YES!). The poster has my slogan, and drawing of me (with a cape), and some other additional information on it; such as the website URL.

The pins look awesome too! They are bright as well, and printed very nicely. I can't wait to hand these out!

Which brings us to another subject. Starting tomorrow, I am going visit the classes that are eligible to vote (including my class) to talk about my campaign. I believe the process includes me giving the pins to the teachers to hand out, but I'm not sure. If this is correct, then I will see you all tomorrow!

This is my very first post on my very first blog. I'm at 7th grader at a school in Portland, Oregon. The campaign for the 2009/2010 Student Council is just beginning. Only 7th graders are allowed to run for office, and after much thought and prayer, I've decided to go for it. As of Friday, 5/8/09, it's official! I'm running for Student Council President for the 2009/2010 school year. This blog will cover my campaign experiences as well as be a place to answer questions. In order to submit my name for the ballot, I first needed to get permission from my teachers, the Principal, and my parents. The next step was to gather 30 signatures from students from 4th to 7th grade. Once that was done, I needed to come up with a catchy slogan for my campaign. That was really tricky! I was lamenting that nothing rhymed with my name, and a teacher suggested that I go with "Don't be scaly, vote for Cayleigh!" After failing to draw a respectable dragon for my logo and also realizing that perhaps it's not a great strategy to incorporate scaly things in one's campaign, I decided to scratch the old brain cells on more time. At long last, I worked out a slogan. Ta Da! Finally, a masterpiece was born. Be wowed by the awesome awesomeness. "Vote 4 Cayleigh! She'll serve U daily!"

I'm really thankful to all the students who have encouraged me and given me some great advice so far. My little 4th grade sister has really gotten into the spirit of the campaign, and I am so appreciative of her support. There's much to be done before election week.

Next on the campaign agenda:
- Make a poster to be hung in the school cafeteria
- Make 25 campaign badges to distribute (we're only allowed to make 25)
- Write my campaign speech
